Virginia's Chesapeake Bay region encompasses two peninsulas or 'necks': the Middle Peninsula and the Northern Neck, each defined by the bay and rivers that surround it.

River Country's rural character lends itself to the independent explorer. A day's outing could include the Northern Neck Wine Trail, a walking tour of a courthouse town and lunch in a quiet fishing village. Wanderlust leads you down back roads to former plantations and wild beaches. Hiking and paddling is along deserted beaches and maritime forest.
